Sewage issues in my building.

Women with paper clip over her nose and it says Smelly bathroom Here to help. Get your smell looked at so it doesn't turn into something very serious and cause more damage.

Here are a few reasons why you could be having sewage Odors:

Dry Trap: This is a very common culprit of a sewer odor. I mostly will come from a bathroom that is not used often.

Lack of proper drain or vent pipes: Every fixture should have a “p-trap” that holds water in a “U” shape that creates a seal, as well as a vent system that equalizes air pressure and allowed sewer gases to escape outside. This step can often be skipped for those that do it their selves.

Broken seals around the toilet: Check for air leaks in the wax ring around the toilet by wobbling the toilet bowl to make sure it’s tightly sealed to the floor.

Clogged vents: Have a professional plumber inspect all of the vent pipes inside your building to make sure the vent stack isn’t clogged.

Broken sewer lateral pipe or vent stack: old cast iron pipes are especially prone to cracking. Call a professional plumber or sewer company to come out and inspect the lines.
